As briefly mentioned in my last post, there has been some ‘rumblings’ in the car ownership area of my family…
My uncle recently sold his car to a good family friend for $5000. His daughter (my cousin) and her family, as part of their migration back to Australia from the UK also took delivery of their new Land Rover.
My cousin (from the last post) has been constantly seeking my dad’s advice on the potential new cars he is interested in. The latest development is that my brother is now interested in taking over my cousin’s car as a second car… What I like to think of as playing music chairs with cars within the extended family.
As for me? Well, as of this weekend just passed, I’m now exploring home ownership as a means of long-term investment… It is, after all, the great Aussie dream – to own your own home! Yesterday (Saturday), I attended two house inspections, both in my suburb. Nothing great or spectacular – fairly ordinary homes. What I did learn from the experience was that my main competitors seem to be newly migrated Asians/Chinese… young families with small school-aged children.
Ultimately, the house I buy will be rented out and in time, pay itself off… Another thing I learnt has been that all the admin-type costs associated with purchasing a home (conveyancing, loans, etc…) is approximately 10% on top of the sale price!
A highlight from this weekend was lunch today – with JO, TC & JC. What is interesting about this group of friends is that we are all two-years apart in age from JO, TC, myself and JC. I draw particular inspiration from TC and how I am following in his footsteps – at least in terms of home-ownership and career development! Relationship-wise is a different story – ‘cos his wedding’s just under 5-months away! Wuhoo!
Anyway, I just love spending time over a meal with these guys… or even, just hanging out… Collectively, we could call ourselves the PDA Club, ‘cos we all have PDAs and we seem to just huddle together after the church 10am service and unite over our handheld devices! =oP
Looking forward to next weekend now! Steam-boat dinner on Friday, Saturday evening at the theatre, and Sunday: helping out with communion, and LUNCH @ Max Brenner! hehe…
