Here in Australia we just celebrated Fathers Day – first Sunday of September.
Now, here are some interesting facts about Fathers Day:
- Mothers Day was established first; Fathers Day was made a holiday somewhat in reaction to ensure both parents were given equal recognition.
- Mothers Day is more universal in being timed in mid May.
- Only 4 countries including Australia celebrate Fathers Day on the first Sunday of September.
What I don’t know is why that date was picked… And also why there is greater date variance for Fathers Day compared to Mothers Day?
Both events didn’t gain prominence in the US until the 1930-40s and wide scale adoption at a global level was throughout the 1950s/60s.
