The action from Day 3 and the first half of the Men’s Singles Draw has seen some minor adjustments to my prediction modelling.Out of the 16 matches played in Round 2, 4 of my predictions were off the mark:
- Game 69 – Giles Simon retired hurt. This has a cascade effect on my Round 3/4 predictions and the “victor” from his match in Pablo Busta becomes my Round 4 pic against Gilles Muller.
- Game 71 – this prediction was simply inaccurate. However, in Round 3 I still expect Marin Cilic to triumph
- Game 74 – Marcos Baghdatis’ loss to Andrey Rublev was a personal disappointment although he did win one set.
- Game 77 – Denis Istomin’s loss so early is a bit of a shock. I think his 2017 Round 4 exit partly gave me hope that he would repeat that performance but unfortunately that has not proven to be the case.
The updated quarters of predictions is thus as follows. A minor change to the previous styling – simplified to red for wrong, green for correct. Original predictions remain on future rounds but are flagged as red with the new one listed below. In the Quarter 1 example below, should Pablo Busta win then his name will flick to green or red.
The second quarter draw is as follows.
In total only two adjustments to Round 3 predictions. There is also one adjustment to my finals prediction but it does not change my overall assessment.
