2017 Annual Review
2017 has been a very busy year once again. Being busy can be misleading as a vague notion, so let me get more specific. The most important reflection point is that I have spent the entire calendar year in a stable relationship, having reached the 1.5 year milestone in November. A second Christmas/New Year season was enjoyed most recently.
When I reflect on the past year, blogging has decreased to the point where the final quarter was a wall of silence here online. If you are a friend/follower of me on Facebook, you will no doubt know that real-life activities have powered on unabated, as reflected in my post activity and sharing. My presence online, as measured from social media activity evolved. In July, post Hillsong Conference 2017, YouTube activity increased for me, with the uploading of video footage from the conference indeed creating a parallel spike in traffic to my YouTube channel. This got an honourable mention in the July 2017 monthly review.
Posting activity increased on my Instagram channel as I started to focus on that online channel more so in the second half of 2017. As Instagram has received more love and attention, the connectivity between it and Facebook and Twitter helps to keep a consistent social media presence across all three channels.
In August, my online presence split with the launch of NICLEE.com.au. The vast majority of traffic continues to hit XBOP.com.au, but the trend is slowly emerging where NICLEE.com.au is starting to increase in followers – hitting a high of 9% of visitor traffic for January. The combined traffic seems stable, so it is possible that this is a transfer of existing visitors from XBOP to NICLEE.
2018: The Year Ahead
The return to blogging in 2018 has had some new gains – with new WordPress likes and followers responding to the latest January posts. After a quiet final quarter of 2017, we return to a “regular” programming cycle with a total of 15 posts made in January. These posts covered two writing serials:
- Choosing Each Day – based on the YouVersion Bible Reading Plan
- AusOpen 2018, which became an 8-post collection, continuing past year write-ups.
To ensure consistency and discipline with blogging, Encountering the New Testament has launched, which will follow a Wednesday morning publication cycle.
Regular programming will see a return to monthly reviews such as this one.
As mentioned in the annual review, it is still early days for the twin brands of XBOP and NICLEE as two separate online presences for me professionally and personally. Throughout 2018, we will no doubt monitor how the websites perform – I expect NICLEE to grow its traffic presence over time, and this will give me opportunities for comparisons as well as the ability to deliver tailored and focus content updates for both.
